Biography

For over thirty years I have worked with furniture

since gaining my degree in Furniture Design at

Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication.

In 1992 I studied Antique Furniture Restoration at West Dean College, where I was awarded a Distinction for my

"Outstanding skill as a Craftsman and keen eye for colour."

West Dean recently asked me to return to run courses specialising in Furniture Making as well as Marquetry and Boullework techniques.

“I feel that the restoration of antiques is

ecologically sound.

Preserving our inheritance for future generations

and care for the environment are an important

part of the aims of this workshop.”

I specialise in the restoration of  Boulle, Marquetry, Fretwork and other intricate detailing. Working in materials such as Abalone shell, Horn, Bone, Tortoiseshell, Ivory and Ivorine.

With extensive experience of working on rare and valuable antique furniture and collections from clients such as Goodwood House, Cowdray, Uppark and The Fleming collection.

Paterson Restorations also works in conjunction with the best skilled craftsmen in Upholstery, Cane and Rush seating and Gilding and other specialists in the local area.
